Welcome to the Oakland Maritime Access, Sustainability, and Trade (O-MAST) Coalition

The Oakland Maritime Access, Sustainability, and Trade (O-MAST) coalition unites maritime, industrial, logistics, labor, and community stakeholders from across Oakland’s goods movement sector to offer a strong, unified voice that reflects the full breadth of the city’s industrial economy and advocates for its long-term success.

Our coalition continues to grow, welcoming new members from both East and West Oakland’s goods movement community, underscoring the importance of citywide collaboration to strengthen industrial jobs, protect critical infrastructure, and support the long-term vitality of the Port of Oakland and the broader goods movement ecosystem.

MISSION

The mission of O-MAST is to lead a collaborative effort to help shape the future of the Port of Oakland and its surrounding area through advocating for:

  • The 98,000 good-paying working-class jobs generated by Port operations (Port of Oakland)
  • The Port’s regional importance as a contributor of $174 billion in economic activity (Port of Oakland)
  • Safe and compatible uses of roads inside and leading into the Port
  • Policies and projects that provide the maximum number of resources to stakeholders to reach their sustainability goals in conjunction with the Port of Oakland and the State of California, including exploring ideas like zero emissions charging stations, hydrogen fueling, offshore wind, and other alternatives
  • Port-compatible development and infrastructure improvements

There are many stakeholders involved in navigating issues pertinent to the Port and adjacent industrial lands. The Port of Oakland is overseen by a Board of Commissioners, a seven-member panel of individuals nominated by the Mayor and appointed by City Council. Port Commissioners exercise exclusive control and management of the Port of Oakland.

Additionally, the Port of Oakland sits within Oakland City Council District 3, currently represented by Councilmember Carroll Fife.

Another important governing body is the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), which aims to protect and enhance the San Francisco Bay and advance the Bay’s responsible, productive, and equitable uses.

Whether you’re looking to actively participate in shaping the Port of Oakland’s future or just looking to stay engaged on maritime and industrial issues and initiatives in the area, the O-MAST coalition is right for you.

Members receive curated legislative and informational updates on maritime and industrial topics, industry networking opportunities, heightened visibility through O-MAST affiliation, and methods for direct advocacy on issues that affect maritime and industrial interests.
